The filters are used to retain a portion of the patient's expired moisture and heat, and return it to the respiratory tract during inspiration, and remove microbiological and particulate from the gases in the breathing circuit.
The volume of filter is substantial enough to assist in preventing total saturation of the filter by fluids secretions.
